Translights also reffered to as translites, backdrops, photobackings or in the states murals can be either front lit or backlit. Backlit translights have a greater print density, and give the user slightly more control in terms of colour and exposure.They can be printed to any size but seams have to be used on strips greater than 5m ,these are transparent and with care can usually be located in busy areas of the image.
These scenes are usually shot on large format transpareny film and drum scanned to the appropriate size, we can then diffuse the image by controlled amounts to create the desired effect. This is not the same as taking a tiny file and massively interpolateing it up, you do need good quality to begin with.
